Air Quality Permitting for Biomass-Fired Electric Generating PlantZephyr prepared the application for a power company seeking an air permit for 100-megawatt steam electric generating facility powered by residual biomass material generated by the forestry industry. Zephyr evaluated various processes (spreader-stoker vs. bubbling fluidized bed boiler) and emissions control options, assisted the client in developing an air permitting strategy, met with the state regulatory agency to identify air permitting requirements, calculated emissions, and performed atmospheric dispersion modeling. A key role Zephyr played in this process was its assistance to the client in presentations to the city buying the power and to the public concerning the role of this project in helping the city reach carbon neutrality and achieve its goal of meeting 30 percent of its energy needs through sustainable and renewable energy sources by 2020.
